Project description
The Waiting Room, a mixed media installation incorporating sculpture, sound and image, sensitively examines the nature of women’s health care in Western culture. The manner in which women’s health has been represented, defined and treated reveals more about the social and political forces affecting women than it does about their particular maladies and afflictions. The history of women’s health care is, in essence, the history of women’s rights. Perspectives ranging from personal accounts to documented records, scientific underpinnings, and literary interpretations illustrate the poetics of pain, the humor of healing and the poignancy of personal strength.
